Lt 1800s/early 1900s German. 800 Silver Chased Dresser Box Secret Meeting Scene. Presented is a handsome German silver box from the late 1800s or early 1900s. The lid of the box features a detailed scene of a group of 18th century garbed men and women, possibly George Washington meeting with patriots to read a letter from the front, or another colonial scene, if this piece were made for the American market. The sides of the box have a rich hand chased design of flowers and elegantly scrolled foliage, with a basket of flowers on either end of the box and a blank oval cartouche on the front and back. This piece is in great overall condition. There is a very minor split in one corner of the lid, but this does not effect the useability of the piece and is quite hard to notice. There are no other splits, no breaks, no dents, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs. The box is stamped with Hanau style pseudo marks. We have tested the box with nitric acid and guarantee it to be at least 800 purity silver. The box has approximate dimensions of 5 3/4 by 4 1/4 by 2 inches, LxWxH.
